Oil rig motorhand

Description

Oil rig motorhands assume responsibility for the engines powering the drilling equipment. They ensure that all other rig equipment operates correctly.

Oil rig motorhands typically do the following:

  • Regularly maintain drilling rig engines, transmissions, heating systems, diesel electric generators and motors, hydraulic systems and other mechanical equipment
  • Monitor inventories for fuel, oil filters, lube oils, greases and other service items
  • Maintain equipment logs and preventative maintenance records as required
  • Operate and maintain the engines that run the draw works, turn rotary table and circulate drilling fluid
  • Ensure usage of proper safety equipment
  • Learn and adhere to the Company’s Safety Program and government safety regulations
  • Support and promote to all employees the Company’s Policies, Procedures and Safety Programs
  • Ensure safety and support equipment is functioning properly
  • Set an example to fellow employees by adhering to all safe work practices and policies. Train new crew members to do the same.
  • Ensure usage of proper safety equipment
  • Ability to comply with company guidelines and work in a safe manner

Minimum qualifications

High school diploma is generally required to work as oil rig motorhand. However, this requirement may differ in some countries.

  • Work in drilling teams: Work confidently within a drilling team on a drilling rig or oil platform with each doing a part but all subordinating personal prominence to the efficiency of the whole.
