Weight loss consultants assist clients in obtaining and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They advise on how to lose weight by finding a balance between healthy food and exercise. Weight loss consultants set goals together with their clients and keep track of progress during weekly meetings. 

The duties of a weight loss consultant include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with clients to create personalized weight loss plans that address their specific needs and goals
  • Helping clients set realistic goals for weight loss and sticking with their plan through thick and thin
  • Meeting with clients regularly throughout their weight loss journey to monitor progress and make adjustments as needed
  • Training clients in proper nutrition and exercise techniques to help them meet their weight loss goals
  • Designing weight loss programs that meet specific client needs and goals while staying within their personal budget
  • Creating a safe and effective exercise program for clients to follow during their weight loss journey
  • Helping clients develop healthy eating habits by providing them with information on nutrition labels and recipes
  • Monitoring client progress and adjusting diets as needed to ensure clients are losing weight in a safe manner
  • Helping clients set realistic weight loss goals based on their current health status, lifestyle habits, and lifestyle preferences

Working conditions

Minimum qualifications

It is possible to work as a weight loss consultant without formal qualifications and get training on the job. Established weight loss companies will generally provide training to new employees.

  • Analyse goal progress: Analyse the steps which have been taken in order to reach the organisation’s goals in order to assess the progress which has been made, the feasibility of the goals, and to ensure the goals can be met according to deadlines.
  • Offer advice on diet-related concerns: Offer advice on dietary concerns such as overweight or elevated cholesterol levels.
  • Perform nutrition analysis: Determine and calculate the nutrients of food products from available sources including food labels.
